Daikin extends heat pump range for boiler replacement

23/11/2021

Brussels, 23 November 2021 – Daikin Europe launches the Daikin Altherma 3 H MT, a mid-temperature hydrosplit heat pump providing a brand-new solution to replace polluting boilers in recently built houses. This extension of Daikin’s existing heat pump range fits in perfectly with Daikin’s mission to help decarbonize Europe and its vision to install a heat pump in every European home. The Daikin Altherma 3 H MT, more silent and better performing than ever, is the result of a unique collaboration between Daikin Europe and Daikin Japan.

As a market leader and a true advocate of decarbonization, Daikin envisions a heat pump in every home, to fully replace boilers. Daikin therefore wants to extend its existing heat pump range for boiler renovation. With the Daikin Altherma 3 H MT, Daikin is further responding to this mission by providing a new solution to replace gas boilers in houses built after 1990. This new product comes as a range extension to the Daikin Altherma 3 H HT, a high temperature heat pump designed for the replacement of oil boilers in older houses.

Most performant and silent unit to decarbonize recent houses

The Daikin Altherma 3 H MT is a mid-temperature hydrosplit heat pump, designed to replace gas boilers in houses built since 1990. Mid-temperature air-to-water heat pumps are characterized by an exit water temperature up to 65°C, which is enough to heat recent radiators in such houses. The unit can also fit in with underfloor heating requiring lower temperatures if the plan is to install it in the renovation.

During the development process of the Daikin Altherma 3 H MT, special attention was paid to the sound and heating performances as well as the design. The Daikin Altherma 3 H MT is one of the quietest in its category. The sound pressure levels corresponds to a noise level of 38 dBA at a distance from 3 meters, with a reduction to 35 dBA in low sound mode, positioning itself between birds chirping and a relaxed reading session in a library. The double sound reduction is achieved through triple-layer insulation of the compressor, and rubber pads between the bottom plate and the anti-vibration plate.

Also on the performance level, the new heat pump has impressive results, even in wintertime. The unit operating range goes down to -28°C outside temperature and can also provide an exit water temperature LWT to 65°C at -15°C outside temperature, by relying on the heat pump only. The Daikin Altherma 3 H MT achieves up to an A+++ (the maximum) space heating energy label, and an A+ (the maximum) in domestic hot water. The design of the outdoor unit answers the needs of customers who value a nice design: the black front grille consists of horizontal lines that hide the fan, the flat grey casing makes the unit blend into any possible environment.

Unique collaboration with Daikin Japan

As a range extension to the Daikin Altherma 3 H HT, the 3 H MT is also the result of a cooperation between Daikin Europe and Daikin Japan. Components such as the fan, the design and the double-injection compressor were developed and created by both parties, a first for Daikin Heating & Renewables SBU. Usually Daikin Japan advises Daikin’s European Development Center on product specifications and testing. But now, for the first time, the collaboration was taken a step further. Patrick Crombez, General Manager Heating and Renewables, specifies,” The Daikin Altherma 3 H MT is a new step forward in our mission to have a heat pump in every home and, in this case, to fully replace gas boilers in recently built houses. We are happy to offer a new unit, made in Europe for Europe. “
