Creating a sustainable society
At Daikin, we believe a responsible HVAC-R industry and a sustainable value chain go hand in hand.
Daikin reduces the environmental impact of cooling, heating and refrigeration throughout the entire product life cycle: from the initial design to end-of-life treatment.
We develop and support the adoption of innovations that use energy-efficient technology and refrigerants with lower global warming potential.
Our innovations offset extreme temperatures to improve people’s health and well-being and optimize the food cold chain from farm to fork.
Together with our customers and partners, we create more sustainable homes, businesses, cities and communities.
Daikin’s global environmental initiatives
Our Environmental Vision 2050, lays the groundwork for Daikin to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 across the entire product lifecycle.
Our mid- to long-term roadmap aims to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 30% in 2025 and 50% in 2030, compared to emissions without measures (business as usual scenario), with 2019 as the base year.
Focus areas where we reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the full lifecycle:
- By 2030, all Daikin equipment manufacturing sites aim to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.
- Help end users reduce product life cycle emissions, from the energy they consume and the refrigerants they contain.
- Invest in development and support the adoption of low-carbon technologies for the decarbonization of new and existing buildings, to lower or avoid greenhouse gas emissions throughout the entire lifetime of the equipment. Heat pumps play an essential role in the energy transition and path to carbon neutrality.
- Create a circular economy for refrigerants, together with governments and stakeholders towards solutions for recovery, recycling, reclamation and reuse.

Daikin Europe environmental actions
Daikin Europe takes environmental actions to ensure that its solutions consistently meet the highest environmental standards across their entire life cycle:
Driving innovation to develop sustainable HVAC-R technologies
Heating, cooling and ventilating a space consumes energy. So does refrigerating food or vaccines. The products and installations to create comfortable and healthy living conditions, have a considerable carbon impact throughout their entire lifecycle.
Air conditioners consume around 10% of all electricity in the world , that includes Daikin appliances. As a result of climate change, demand for cooling is expected to increase, so we must reduce the energy AC appliances consume drastically.
In colder climates, like those in Europe, heating homes and buildings, or providing domestic hot water, accounts for more than 80% of household energy consumption . And today, most of the heating generated is still based on fossil fuel.
Daikin is actively investing in the development and adoption of heat pumps and energy efficient AC that play an important role in reducing carbon emissions.

“We are living through important times. With the effects of climate change being felt all around the world, the urgency to act has never been greater. As a leading company in our industry, we see it as our duty to take up responsibility and use our impact to be part of the solution.”
Toshitaka Tsubouchi, President Daikin Europe
