Daikin Europe provides heat pump systems to Ukrainian schools under Japan-funded recovery program

Brussels, 6 August 2025 – Daikin Europe N.V. has supplied heat pump systems, air conditioners, and air purifiers to schools and kindergarten across Ukraine as part of the Project for Emergency Recovery and Reconstruction, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

To help rebuild critical public infrastructure damaged by the war in Ukraine, JICA supports the procurement of essential equipment in sectors such as energy, transport, and water supply. As part of this initiative, Daikin Europe has provided 32 heat pump units, 5 room air conditioners, and 6 air purifiers to be installed across Ukrainian kindergarten, elementary school and secondary school.

Handover ceremony at kindergarten

A handover ceremony was held on 24 July at a kindergarten in the Ukrainian city of Boryspil, where a state-of-the-art heat pump system was installed. The event was attended by representatives of the Ukrainian government, the Mayor of Boryspil, and JICA officials. Ms. Maryna Denysiuk, Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, expressed her gratitude to JICA and said: “Heat pumps are a modern and advanced solution to save energy and provide comfortable conditions for the children.”

High-efficiency heating during severe winters

Winters in Ukraine are notoriously harsh, with temperatures sometimes dropping below -20°C. Daikin Altherma heat pump system installed in the kindergarten offers stable, energy-efficient heating even in extreme sub-zero conditions. During the event, Mr. Kawamura, Senior Vice President of JICA, stated: “This system will enhance the learning conditions for children and improve the environment in the classrooms.”

Sustainable solutions for social and environmental challenges

In addition to heating with heat pumps, room air conditioners ensure a cool indoor environment in summer and air purifiers improve air quality year-round, contributing to a healthier learning environment. Toshitaka Tsubouchi, President of Daikin Europe, commented: "As a leader in climate control solutions, Daikin is honoured to support the recovery of Ukraine’s educational infrastructure. Through sustainable technology, we remain committed to tackling global social and environmental challenges.”
