Daikin CO2 conveni pack

Commercial refrigeration, comfort cooling and heating in one system

Daikin presents Conveni-Pack with the natural refrigerant CO2

Daikin is using the world's largest trade fair, Euroshop, to present a world first: the Conveni-Pack, which has established itself in recent years as the total solution for the trade, with natural refrigerant CO2. It is particularly climate-friendly thanks to its GWP (Global Warming Potential) of 1. Its positive thermodynamic properties such as low viscosity, high thermal conductivity, high vapour density and classification in safety class A1 as a non-toxic and non-flammable refrigerant make CO2 the ideal refrigerant for food refrigeration. The Conveni-Pack provides commercial refrigeration, comfort cooling and heating, and ventilation in a single system. For heating the sales and functional spaces, the system uses the thermal energy from the refrigerated shelves, display cases and evaporators, which results in high energy saving potentials.

Innovative technology for high energy efficiency

A new swing compressor specially designed for CO2 refrigerant increases the energy efficiency of the Conveni-Pack and thanks to reduced wear, ensures 5 to 15% higher efficiency under nominal operating conditions. The life expectancy of the new compressor is significantly longer due to a low discharge temperature (maximum 100°C) and more precise control of the oil temperature. The new Conveni-Pack saves energy compared to a conventional system through the use of BLDC inverter motors, effective pressure control, two-stage compression and minimal defrosting losses. Seasonal heat recovery leads to further energy savings. The Conveni-Pack meets the needs of supermarkets perfectly, thanks to broader performance regulation. By choosing the Conveni-Pack, supermarkets can achieve their environmental goals while saving energy costs. The compact solution is flexible in its installation – the outdoor unit can be placed up to 35 metres above, 10 metres below or at ground level up to 130 metres away from the indoor units – and scores points with its low-noise operation and the possibility of indoor installation. Thanks to the combination of cooling, air-conditioning, heating and ventilation functions in one system, the Conveni-Pack requires 40% less floor space.

“Natural HVACR 4 LIFE” research project

As part of the “Natural HVACR 4 LIFE” project – co-financed by the EU LIFE funding programme, which provides financial support for environmental and nature conservation projects – Daikin Europe N.V. is now researching together with Daikin Airconditioning Germany and Daikin AC Spain to expand the possible applications of the Conveni-Pack with the climate-friendly refrigerant CO2. The company attaches particular importance to the correct interaction between refrigerant and system design. This is decisive for the overall efficiency of the system and therefore always uses the refrigerant that best meets the aspects of safety, environmental compatibility, economy and energy efficiency. Research is currently underway at the Daikin plant in Ostend (Belgium) in a simulated supermarket environment to find out how to get even more out of the refrigerant in terms of applications and efficiency. These functions will be tested later under real conditions in German and Spanish supermarkets.
