The new Daikin Ducted Fan Coil Unit: FWQ-A

Cecchina, 10 December 2025 – Daikin is expanding its ducted fan coil unit offering with the introduction of the FWQ-A, a new model designed to deliver higher energy efficiency, greater installation flexibility and enhanced integration with modern building control systems. Equipped with a high-efficiency Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motor and open protocol communication, the FWQ-A represents a significant step forward in the evolution of Daikin’s hydronic portfolio.

A compact and flexible solution for diverse applications

Available in nine sizes and offering cooling capacities from 2.1 to 11.5 kW, the FWQ-A has been engineered to respond to a broad range of project requirements. Each unit is supplied with an integrated drain pump and additional sub-drain pan, while optional factory-mounted valves and a wide selection of accessories simplify installation and allow full customisation. Designed for both 2-pipe and 4-pipe systems, the unit provides a versatile solution for comfort applications in commercial and residential buildings.

Enhanced performance for modern ducted systems

The FWQ-A delivers improved cooling capabilities and greater flexibility in system design. Cooling outputs can reach up to 12.5 kW at 50 Pa under standard conditions, ensuring stable airflow in typical installations. For more demanding configurations, the unit can operate efficiently at external static pressures of up to 140 Pa—maintaining performance even in complex layouts or long duct runs. This extended operating range gives designers additional freedom while ensuring consistent thermal comfort across all zones.

Energy-efficient comfort with BLDC technology

At the heart of the unit is a BLDC motor designed to reduce energy consumption and support ultra-quiet operation. A variable Dip Switch enables precise adjustment of fan speed to match the system’s external static pressure, ensuring stable airflow and preventing unwanted efficiency losses. This optimisation translates into lower operating costs and improved long-term reliability.

Ready for smart building integration

Open protocol communication ensures that the FWQ-A can be integrated seamlessly into Building Management Systems and hydronic HVAC networks. The unit is also fully compatible with the Daikin Smart Control System (SCS), enabling advanced system monitoring, energy optimisation and centralised management. SCS is specifically developed to support Daikin hydronic equipment, providing enhanced control across complex heating and cooling installations.

Simplified installation and commissioning

With factory-mounted valves, an integrated drain pump and pre-assembled key components, the FWQ-A is designed for rapid installation and reduced commissioning time. This plug-and-play approach minimises on-site intervention, lowers installation costs and reduces the risk of errors—supporting greater reliability and long-term operational efficiency.

Adaptable filtration for different environments

The FWQ-A is supplied with standard G2 filters, with optional G3 and G4 filtration available for applications requiring higher air purity. This modular approach ensures that air quality can be tailored to the specific needs of each installation, from standard commercial spaces to environments where enhanced filtration is essential.

Advanced control for intuitive operation

The unit integrates seamlessly with the Shinka control platform, combining the FWEDA PCB logic with the Shinka Touch wall interface. Together with the Shinka Manager mobile commissioning app, this control ecosystem enables straightforward setup, intuitive operation and optimised day-to-day performance.

A broad portfolio of ducted comfort solutions

Ducted fan coil units are designed for concealed installation in false ceilings or technical spaces, allowing them to blend into building architecture while ensuring balanced air distribution and precise temperature control. They are commonly used in offices, hotels, commercial premises and premium residential projects where quiet operation, consistent airflow and integration with building control systems are essential.

Daikin’s wider fan coil portfolio includes ducted units, cassette models, flexi units, as well as floor- and wall-mounted solutions. This comprehensive range ensures that designers and installers can select the most suitable configuration for each project, achieving the required balance of performance, space optimisation and energy efficiency.
