Daikin Acquires Spanish Company Tewis Smart Systems S.L.

Strengthening Daikin’s business foundation by offering integrated refrigeration solutions for the food retail.

Daikin Europe N.V., through its subsidiary Zanotti S.p.A., concluded an agreement on the 7th of February 2018 to acquire Tewis Smart Systems S.L (Tewis). Tewis is a leading company in Spain offering standard and customised refrigeration solutions.

Zanotti S.p.A signed an agreement to purchase all company shares.

Tewis is a leading company in the design and engineering of refrigeration systems. Along with their expertise in customising controls (including monitoring), Tewis offers total comprehensive solutions for Refrigeration and Climate applications. Over the last years, Tewis particularly developed a range of CO2 refrigeration systems and has established a long lasting relationship with key Spanish and Portuguese food retailers.

Their mission and philosophy is to achieve high reliability and realise remarkable energy savings for their customer base.

Their team combines experience and know-how in the area of engineering, refrigeration, monitoring and the programming of electronic controls. This broad knowledge base allows Tewis to deal with projects in an innovative way. Through tailor made support, Tewis guides their customers in selecting and designing the best solution for each application.

The business of Tewis is focussed in Spain and Portugal. As such they use the facilities of Zanotti Smart Solutions , which is based in Valencia, to produce units for CO2 as well as other refrigerants. For their control platform Tewis has partnerships in place with several suppliers. At the same moment, Zanotti S.p.A also reached agreement with Zanotti Smart Solution to acquire the remaining interest in Zanotti Smart Solution.

With this acquisition, Daikin, through its daughter company Zanotti, takes another important step towards strengthening its position in the Refrigeration market. Daikin intends to further develop the philosophy of Tewis and roll this out on an international scale, maximising synergies with the existing Daikin sales organisations. In France, as one of the key countries for international expansion, Daikin will reinforce their local refrigeration team and make maximum use of Tewis know-how and expertise to further strengthen their position in the food retail market.

In addition, Tewis’ product offering using CO2 refrigerant complements the current Daikin/Zanotti product ranges working on R- 410A, R-134a, …. As the optimal refrigerant for each application is different depending on the application type, capacity/ temperature range and safety requirement, it is important to offer a diverse refrigerant choice.
