There are 2 types of expansion valve available in the market
- Thermostatic expansion valves
- Electronic expansion valves (EEV):
– Pulsating
– Proportional
Advantage of Electronic towards a Thermostatic expansion valve:
- EEV can work with a lower HP/LP ratio
- Better evaporator efficiency due to better superheat control
- Quicker to install
Attention points:
Some electronic expansion valves are bleeding, meaning that even when fully closed they let a very small amount of refrigerant pass => danger that liquid goes back to the compressor!
To avoid this, a solenoid valve would need to be installed before the electronic expansion valve
