Main purpose of the job

The Senior Service Engineer will lead and coordinate the branch service team with specific focus on developing service business. Assist the sales branch managers with after sales matters. Train or arrange service staff training on all HVAC, service related tasks, comply with safety regulations and ensure employees acquire the necessary certifications. Maintain customer satisfaction, manage and take responsibility for the branch service budget. Interview prospective employees, and meet with company managers to discuss different company/service strategies and requirements. Manage the scheduling of appointments and dispatching service technicians. Attend service calls as necessary; resolve customer disputes.


Responsibilities and duties

  • Provide a safe working environment and ensure the safe operating condition of the workshop and equipment.

  • Provide 24 hour telephonic access for customers who require technical assistance.

  • Coordinate the service team booking schedules on a daily basis.

  • Ensure all queries are resolved in the shortest possible time.

  • Coordinate and check all call outs.

  • Attend site meetings and liaise with customers.

  • Formulate lists of old VRV and Applied systems that could be approached for possible service contracts.

  • Perform site inspections.

  • Promote and secure new maintenance contracts.

  • Draw up maintenance contract agreements. 

  • Assign and manage sub-contractors to carry out maintenance/service work and negotiate fees.

  • Technical reports: check technician’s reports before sending to clients.      

  • Prepare/update training material for the academy in conjunction with the National Service Manager.

  • Arrange and monitor training for service staff and coordinate training dates.

  • Mentor service staff.

  • Carry out dealer training be it practical or theory. 

  • Job cards to be checked on a weekly basis.

  • Assist with costing jobs and quotes to customers.

  • Attend monthly service department meetings with National Service Manager.

  • Perform weekly branch service progress meetings.

  • Inspect or coordinate an inspection of the damaged units at the Distribution Centre in Johannesburg twice per week.   


Education and experience

  • Grade 12 or N3 HVAC Diploma (Technical College)

  • National Trade certificate in HVAC&R

  • Safe handling of refrigerant certified, Cat B (SAQCC)

  • Safety certificate

  • First Aid level 1

  • Minimum of 10 years’ service and maintenance experience activities

  • Minimum of 7 years commissioning experience

  • Minimum of 7 years fault finding experience

  • Minimum of 7 years Installation experience

  • Good understanding of setting up HVAC controls

  • Advanced computer literacy
