Daikin takes repair action model of Daikin Air Purifier - MCK75JVM-K
Daikin Europe N.V. announces a problem with its Air Purifier with humidification function manufactured between November 2008 till end of February 2010. Although no incidents have been reported in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) territory, Daikin Europe N.V., however, decided to offer free inspections and repairs in order to protect the well-being and the safety of its customers.
Through Daikin Europe N.V.’s (DENV) initial assessment, DENV came to a belief that certain models of Daikin Air Purifiers may become incompatible with the general safety requirement if used under certain specific conditions. The potential problem for this Air Purifier model can occur when installed in ammonia rich environments and in combination with a relative humidity higher than 70% (like e.g. elderly houses, hospitals). Under these circumstances it can happen that there is a potential risk of ignition in the deodorizing filter: an electric discharge in the deodorizing filter can occur through the dust collection filter in the electric dust collector. Ammonia series can precipitate to the deodorizing filter, functioning as an auxiliary combustion material, resulting in a potential ignition of the deodorizing filter. Since it takes a certain period of time until the above mentioned process causes a possible ignition, there is not an immediate danger in usage of the said products.
Daikin Industries, Ltd. (100% shareholder of DENV based in Japan) manufactured and sold approximately 870.000 models of Air Purifier that could have this potential risk. In Japan, there have been eight reported cases. As a consequence, Daikin Industries Ltd. will proceed with corrective action in accordance to Japanese law.
In Europe, DENV imported one specific Air Purifier model (MCK75JVM-K) from Daikin Industries Ltd. and sold approximately 4,000 units between January 2009 and April 2010 in EMEA territory. There were no incidents reported. Nevertheless, in view of customers’ safety, DENV will proactively offer customers in EMEA free inspections and repairs on the products.
