Annie - Production Operator
Daikin Europe N.V. Ostend
“I had to rethink all of the preconceived notions I had about working in a factory when I came to work for Daikin."
Annie Bonduel was self-employed, and then she worked in an insurance and financial services agency and in the catering business. She was single and 45+ when she went in search of work. In February 2007 she attended an info session in her city and shortly thereafter went to visit an employment agency. She has worked since May 2007 as a production worker at Daikin.
Annie: “I must honestly admit that I was not entirely at ease about it. Having previously been self-employed, I had a lot of questions. Would I be able to adjust to the production environment? Would the work not be too stressful or too monotonous? ... The reality at Daikin, it turns out, is completely different. There is a fantastic atmosphere here among all of the employees. You can simply talk to someone who has a higher function; you will always get a friendly reply.
The work on the production line is intense, but it does not go too fast, and the work is not too difficult. And thanks to the ‘rotation’ system, there is sufficient variation. In contrast to how I worked before, I now have regular hours and a lot of free time thanks to the two-shift system. And, financially speaking, this job is also a pleasant surprise. What I really enjoy are the contacts with people of all ages. This way you pick up some things from the social environment of other generations. And home-work travel is no problem. I drive from my house to my work in just 15 minutes. And in the high-season I participate in car pooling so that I get to know even more new colleagues.”
