With the takeover of the German heating manufacturer Rotex GmbH in October 2008, Daikin Europe N.V. has strengthened its offerings and expanded its market presence in the heating market. Rotex is known as technology leader for advanced heating solution - energy efficient boilers, solar and underfloor heating - which perfectly complement Daikin's heat pump range.

On the 31st of January Daikin Europe acquired 100% of the share capital of its distributor in Sweden, Svenska Daikin A.B., which name has been changed into Daikin Sweden A.B. The acquisition puts Daikin Europe N.V. in a position to strengthen the future development of the company.

Daikin AC Netherlands 
Effective 1 April 2007, Daikin became the sole owner of Itho Airconditioning B.V. and gave it the new name Daikin Air Conditioning Netherlands. Continued growth of the direct expansion market is foreseen, as well as the development of new markets in applied systems and heating.

2007 marked the introduction by Daikin Europe of the Roundflow cassette, an R-410A ceiling-mounted cassette with a 360º radial airflow pattern. Its benefits: improved, uniform airflow and temperature distribution, lower air velocities and less draughts as a result of increased horizontal airflows.



2006 
Compressor factory in Brno
The heart of the air conditioner is the compressor and for the strategic rationale of the Residential units factory in Plzen to fully pay-off, it is essential to have the supply of compressors close-by. Therefore, it was decided to set up a compressor factory, also in the Czech Republic, in Brno. (Daikin Device Czech Republic s.r.o.)

In 2006, Daikin Europe N.V. introduced Ururu Sarara, the world’s first split air conditioner to also control room humidity (without an external water source!) and ventilation. Air conditioning, air purification, humidity control and ventilation in a single package.

History 2006 althermaDaikin Altherma
The application of years of Daikin expertise in heat pumps to the home heating market resulted in an exciting new product: Daikin Altherma. Heat stored in the ambient outside air is extracted and used for room heating and domestic sanitary hot water, providing extreme heating efficiency and room comfort, even in the heart of winter. As an option, Daikin Altherma is also available with a cooling function.

In April of 2006, Daikin Air Conditioning South Africa became an affiliate of Daikin Europe N.V. With its head office in Cape Town and sales branches in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, it also covers the markets of Namibia, Angola, Botswana and Zambia.

2006 also saw the introduction of a new sales affiliate in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The facility increases Daikin Europe’s presence in the booming Middle East region with excellent logistics at a central location.

In April 2006, Daikin Air Conditioning Greece SA became a 100% subsidiary of Daikin Europe. Its mission: establish Daikin as the leading manufacturer of air conditioning systems in the local market, promote innovative Daikin technology, develop a competitive sales network and improve service both before and after sale.

History 2006 OYLOYL
Arguably the most important event of 2006 was the acquisition by Daikin Industries Ltd. of OYL Industries, parent company of McQuay International, AAF International and J&E Hall. The result: Daikin to offer the most comprehensive product and service line in the industry and strong coverage of all world markets.

July of 2006 saw the opening of a new Daikin Europe representative office in Ireland. Existing distributors in booming Ireland now benefit from the support such an office can provide, and the way is smoothed for Daikin’s expansion throughout the country.

ISO 9001 quality certification obtained by Daikin Air Conditioning Italy S.p.A. and Daikin Air Conditioning Poland S.p.z.o.o. 
ISO 14001 environmental certification obtained by Daikin Air Conditioning Poland S.p.z.o.o and Daikin Air Conditioning Belgium NV.
Water-cooled VRV II introduced to the market, opening the way for the application of VRV technology to medium and large-sized commercial projects.
Daikin Europe is given full responsibility for developing and serving the markets in Africa and the Middle East.


2004
Plzen factoryIn order to shorten the supply chain and continuously meet customers expectations, Daikin decided to set up a factory in Plzen in the Czech Republic that will focus on the production of residential in- and outdoor units. (Daikin Industries Czech Republic s.r.o.)
History 2004Continued development of European markets: Daikin Europe Greek Office is established; Daikin Air Conditioning Portugal SA is set up. A third UK distributor, MacQueen Air Conditioning, is acquired by Daikin Europe NV with as goal a fully integrated Daikin Air Conditioning UK by the fourth quarter of 2005. Plans are announced for a major new R&D centre in Osaka Japan. 
Significant progress is made in obtaining ISO certification at all levels of the Daikin operation: Daikin France and Daikin Central Europe obtain ISO 14001 certification.

Daikin Europe NV celebrates its 30th anniversary.
Two former Daikin distributors, Cooling Services and Pillinger Air, have been acquired by Daikin Europe NV in order to re-enforce Daikin in the UK market

Milestones 1999A new 15000m² logistics plant is added to the plant in Ostend.
Daikin Airconditioning Central Europe GmbH is established as a sales company responsible for the Central European market.

Milestones 1998Daikin Europe NV celebrates its 25th anniversary and is awarded the prestigious ISO 14001 certification for its environmental policy.
Daikin Airconditioning Germany GmbH is established as a sales company responsible for the German market.

Milestones 1997To anticipate the phase-out dates of all CFC based equipment, Daikin Europe starts producing air conditioning units with ozone friendly refrigerants. 
Daikin Europe introduces the revolutionary swing compressor.

To serve the European market even better production of VRV, Sky air and multi split systems is transferred from Japan to Europe.

Milestones Daikin historyWith the inauguration of the 25000m² surface of a new factory and offices, Daikin Europe celebrates its 20th anniversary.
To strengthen and support the distributor sales Daikin Europe opens an office and warehouse in the UK: Daikin UK Office
The establishment of the Daikin training centre, equipped with the latest hi-tech audiovicual demonstration facilities gives a new dimension to the training courses.

Milestones 1992Daikin Airconditioning France is established as a sales company responsible for the French market.

Milestones 1991Daikin Europe NV invests 45 million Euro in the construction of new premises and production lines.
The VRV heat recovery series is introduced, offering simultaneous cooling and heating from different indoor units on the same refrigerant circuit. This became a popular system worldwide for imporved energy efficiency ratios and subsequent lower operational cost.


1990
The end of the year sees the launch of the VRV inverter system allowing to operate up to 8 indoor units from one single outdoor unit. Inverter capacity control greatly increases the flexibility and efficiency of the system.


1987
The original VRV air conditioning system developed by Daikin in 1982 is introduced into Europe in a VRV standard format.
The system is able to supply conditioned air from up to 4 indoor units connected to a single outdoor unit.
Daikin Europe NV inaugurated the new sales office building.


1983
Daikin Europe NV celebrates is 10th anniversary.

Milestones 1982Through research and development ensures Daikin's first VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume) system becomes an immediate success. 
In that same year Daikin Airconditioning Belgium is established as an air conditioning sales company responsible for Belgium and Luxemburg.

Milestones 1973Due to the growing European demand for climate control and refrigeration equipment, Daikin establishes a complete production and assembly facility in Ostend, Belgium.


1967
Milestones 1967The company's first foothold is the start of a sales coordination centre in Malta. The centre is responsible for a smooth and fast delivery of Daikin's complete product range to its expanding European sales network.

Milestones 1958After years of in-depth research and development Daikin introduces its first heat pump air conditioners on the national and international markets.

Daikin becomes the first Japanese company to manufacture self-contained and packaged air conditioners on a large scale.

1924
Milestones 1924With "Air Extrusion" representing key words, Akira Yamada starts up the "Osaka Kinzoku Kogyosho Limited Partnership" in Japan. The company soon reaches unprecedented sales levels due to strong demand coupled with its production mastery of quality and efficiency. From the thirties onwards, Daikin specializes in cooling systems and refrigerators, successfully developing its own refrigerant.
